Arriving in Tbilisi

Following a tradition in Georgian architecture of harmonious relationship of temples with the surrounding natural landscape there is so many beautiful places to see in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

Narikala Fortress

Narikala is an ancient fortress overlooking Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, and the Mtkvari River. Newly built in 1996–1997, it replaces the original 13th-century church that was destroyed in a fire. It gets lit up in the evening and the lit up fortress definitely catches the eye as you see it from the city.

Botanical Garden There have been gardens on this site for centuries. Formally the Royal Gardens, it became the Botanical Gardens in 1845 and is located in the Tsavkisis-Tskali Gorge with waterfalls and bridges all long the garden.


Abanotubani sulfur baths

A cluster of historic bathhouses built on the famed hot springs among quaint restaurants and stunning old architecture. Decide between public or private baths and enjoy the relaxing heated waters.


Metekhi Church

The Metekhi (Virgin Mary Assumption) Church is a Georgian Orthodox church located on the bank of the Mtkvari river, opposite the old town of Tbilisi. Time of the church construction is still arguable as it was added to and modified from the 5th to the 13th century.

Dry bridge Market

Most populare open air market where the Georgian people sell all sorts of crafty bazar items from jewellery, knives, soviet items and so much more.











Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi

This is the main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church in Tbilisi. Constructed between 1995 and 2004, it is the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world. Its structure can be seen from all over the old town in Tbilisi. The golden peaks light up as the sun reaches a setting point in the afternoon.

Bridge of peace

Known as Peace bridge which is a pedestrian bridge, a steel and glass construction illuminated with numerous LED lights, over the River in downtown Tbilisi. It is very beautiful at night as it lights up the waters below.

The Clock Tower

In 2010 Rezo Gabriadze had built a unique clock tower next to Marionette theatre in Tbilisi old town. Every hour an angel comes out with a small hammer to ring the bell at the top of the tower. There is a steel beam holding up the left end of the tower.































Vake Park

Vake Park is a public park in Tbilisi. The park was opened in 1946 and is located in the Vake district with a World War 2 that memorial sits at the top of the hill in the park.


Turtle Lake

A beautiful forest walk from Vake Park, Turtle Lake was named due to the perceived abundance of turtles living in the lake. We had a lovely lunch at a restaurant on the lake. The sun sets behind the hill on the other side of the lake.



Tbilisi sea

The Tbilisi sea or Tbilisi reservoir is an artificial lake in the vicinity of Tbilisi that serves as a reservoir. The lake has a length of 8.75 km and a width of 2.85 km. It was opened in 1953 and has become a popular recreation spot. 


Chronicles of Georgia

The Chronicle of Georgia is a monument located near Tbilisi sea. The monument sits at the top of a large set of stairs. There are 16 pillars that are between 30-35 meters tall and the top half features kings, queens and heroes of Georgia while the bottom part depict the story of Christ.



Rike Park

Rike park is considered to be the youngest recreational area in Tbilisi. ... The Rike park is quite easy to find, as its main entrance is right from the beautiful pedestrian ‘Bridge of Peace’ and is also the starting point of a newly opened cable car that takes visitors up to Narikala fortress.



Lake Lisi

The lake and surrounding area provide a habitat for variety of different species of exotic birds. In addition to various avian species, the area around the lake provides shelter to a variety of animals such as turtles, foxes and hares. The area is well known for the large population of snakes that live in the hillsides around the lake. There is a track to walk/ run/ cycle around with a few coffee cafes and a tranquil view.


Arriving in Borjormi

Kharaguli National park.

It has an area of 914 km². A great place for hiking, picnics and seeing Fortress ruins.



On our first day walking in Borjomi to taste Borjomi waters and a short hike to the unforgettable sulfur bathwith temperatures is 33 amongst the snow for a swim. Its said to have magical healing properties.



We walked through the Borjomi Mineral Water park where there is a hydro electric station which is no longer in use.


On our second day, the first stop was Rabati Castel,



then Khertvisi Fortress along our route to the cave town Vardzia.


Vardizia

The remarkable cave city of Vardzia is both a cultural symbol and a spectacular natural phenomenon. Vardzia is a rock-carved fortress stretched over 500 meters with 13 levels. This underground monastery was built in the 12th Century. A major earthquake in 1283 shook away the outer walls of many caves only 100 years after its construction. Therefore, the remaining caves that were once hidden became visible.


Arriving in Gori

Fortress of Gori

The fortress was built in 1774, but was significantly damaged by an earthquake in 1920. The fortress has been invaded many times and controlled by Ossetians, Iranians and Persians, amongst others. The stronghold has been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt.



Stalin Museum

The Joseph Stalin Museum is a museum in Gori, Georgia dedicated to the life of Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, who was born in Gori. The town was built around his home.



Uplistsikhe

This cave city sits 10km east of Gori above the north side of the Mtkvari River founded in the 6th century BC and was continued to be inhabited up until the 1st century AD.



Arriving at Kazbegi

Kazbegi

Ananuri Fortress and Gudauri Ski resort for beautiful panoramic views was a must on our route to kazbegi.



Kazbegi National Park is located on the northern slopes of the Caucasus range, and it is a protected area at 5,047 metres above sea level, Kazbegi Mountain is the third highest mountain in Georgia, and is surrounded by myths and religious tradition. We did a nice uphill hike to the Gergeti Trinity Church. (Gergeti meaning place of snakes). There are many guest houses to choose from in the town that are very hospitable with friendly locals ready to welcome you.



Batumi



Batumi is a wonderful city with wonderful things to see and do near by. You can enjoy the sun setting over the Black Sea with evening leaving you gasping at the spectacular colors lighting up the sky as you say goodnight to the sun.
