Travel Tips

Traveling With Anxiety

1. Know what causes you to feel anxious whether it be hoards of people or not knowing where to go from there you can start to manage it.

2. Travel with friends or a partner, Jerome is extremely good at gathering information and I balance us by going with the flow when need be. Use each other’s strengths to make things easier

3. Plan out especially the first few days plan how you will take a booked taxi from the airport to your hotel, plan where you want to visit and read up on blogs about others who have visited those places, this will give you a good idea of what to expect.

4. If you feel anxious in the city get out into nature. Choose destinations that’s you think will make you feel more comfortable. For me New York City is last on my list because I don't enjoy cities, drinking or gambling, I will be much calmer in nature and the in the mountains.

5. You can choose when to leave. If something feels off you can change the way you feel by removing yourself form the situation. Try identify the difference between your anxiety and your six sense of intuition

6. Figure out what helps to calm you down and is stress releasing and then incorporate that into your journey. Some love to swim it relaxes them, I'm afraid of the ocean so I would rather book a horse ride which others might find scary. You need to listen to how you feel and follow that.

7. Do some sort of exercise. By being active you release excess energy and the brain releases endorphins which makes you feel strong, capable and happier. Doing exercise also help with a good nights sleep.

8. Make sure you’ve had something to eat and have been to the bathroom. I have found when you are hungry (hangry) or holding in a wee, it can really bring out anxiety.
