About Us

Odette and Jerome

We were like many South Africans, stuck in the trap of leaving home before sunrise and arriving home late after a very long day. Wishing away the days just for the weekend break. You lose yourself being on autopilot most of the time.

We met a little over 4 years ago now. We lived for the rush of working hard, the mindset of trying to be "successful" trying to hustle and bustle to make ends meet but realizing you living paycheck to paycheck. We always spoke of traveling but like many South Africans we felt it was not possible to leave.

We came from a town called Benoni. Odette and I decided to get married and went to New Zealand on a honeymoon. We had a friend that immigrated and this sounded like an amazing idea. We tried to IMAGINE ESCAPING & LIVING IN A NEW COUNTRY.

An opportunity presented itself and Jerome landed a job offer in New Zealand. We spent the next few months battling with immigration and….finally, we got that email saying, “You have been granted a working visa,” We were ecstatic and begun packing and planning our move.

We arrived eagerly at the airport, go to the check-in counter, handing over our passports and the lady assisting us says to Odette,

“Ma’am I'm sorry but you cannot get on this flight, your visa is not valid.” Our hearts sunk, I had to start work and it was final Odette was not getting on the plane with me, standing there with tears running down my face. We were told that due to applying for an extension on the current visa the old visa falls away which was unbeknown to us.

We applied for a new visa and this took a pain staking month. Finally, Odette joined me. We found a little apartment, and with a new job we thought

we hit the jackpot!

As time went on we only realized that we had fallen into the trap again. I was working from 6 am to 5 pm and just to maintain a more expensive lifestyle as

New Zealand is not cheap.

We didn't want to seem ungrateful but Odette and I decided that this is not the life we wanted and we were not happy trading our time for money. We spent just under a year in New Zealand and this was the push we needed to start what would become The best days of our lives.
